Transport Statement

What are Transport Statements?

Major new developments generate a large number of journeys which have to be accommodated by the transport network. In the UK a Transport Assessment (TA) is usually required in support of these developments. The TA examines the transport and travel implications of a development and assesses its impact on the transport network. Where this impact us not acceptable, mitigation measures are identified.

Specific TA guidance is provided to cover England, Wales, Scotland and London respectively. The guidance includes for thresholds of when a TA, or the lower level Transport Statement (TS), is required and the elements that should be included. A TA could be required for any type of land use and is at the request of the highway authority.
